The question, in short

Grid diagram with points A, B and C; write coordinates, complete a rectangle, find a midpoint and draw a horizontal line.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 1 mark

State the coordinates of point A as marked on the grid.

  1. 1Point A is 2 squares right of O and 3 squares up
  2. 2So A is (2, 3)

Answer(2, 3)

Part (b) · 1 mark

Plot point D with a cross so that ABCD forms a rectangle.

  1. 1A is (2, 3), B is (1, 1) and C is (5, −1)
  2. 2For ABCD to be a rectangle, D must be the fourth corner
  3. 3Going from C the same way as from B to A gives D = (6, 1)

Answer(6, 1)

Part (c) · 2 marks

Calculate the coordinates of the midpoint of the segment AC.

  1. 1A is (2, 3) and C is (5, −1)
  2. 2Midpoint x = (2 + 5) ÷ 2 = 3.5
  3. 3Midpoint y = (3 + (−1)) ÷ 2 = 1
  4. 4So the midpoint of AC is (3.5, 1)

Answer(3.5, 1)

Part (d) · 1 mark

Draw the horizontal line y = 4 on the grid.

  1. 1y = 4 means every point on the line has y-coordinate 4
  2. 2So draw a horizontal line across the grid at height 4

AnswerA horizontal line through y = 4
