The question, in short
Using a grid with points A, B, C and line EF, find coordinates, plot point D at (3, −2), find the midpoint of BC, and give the equation of EF.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
State the coordinates of point A from the grid.
- 1Read the coordinates of point A from the grid.
- 2(1, 0)
Answer(1, 0)
Part (b) · 1 mark
Plot and label point D at (3, −2) on the grid.
- 1Locate the point with x-coordinate 3 and y-coordinate −2 on the grid.
- 2Mark this point with a cross and label it D.
AnswerCross marked at (3, −2)
Part (c) · 2 marks
Calculate the coordinates of the midpoint of the segment BC.
- 1Find the coordinates of B: (−4, 1).
- 2Find the coordinates of C: (−2, −3).
- 3Midpoint x-coordinate: (−4 + (−2)) / 2 = −6 / 2 = −3.
- 4Midpoint y-coordinate: (1 + (−3)) / 2 = −2 / 2 = −1.
- 5(−3, −1)
Answer(−3, −1)
Part (d) · 1 mark
Give the equation of the straight line EF shown on the grid.
- 1Observe that line EF is horizontal and passes through y = 3.
- 2The equation of a horizontal line is y = constant.
- 3y = 3
Answery = 3
