The question, in short
Use similar quadrilaterals ABCD and EFGH with AB = 5 cm, BC = 4 cm, FG = 10 cm, GH = 24 cm to find missing sides x and y.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Calculate x, the side EF, using corresponding sides of the two similar quadrilaterals.
- 1BC corresponds to FG
- 2Scale factor = 10 ÷ 4 = 2.5
- 3x = 5 × 2.5
- 4x = 12.5
Answer12.5
Part (b) · 2 marks
Calculate y, the side CD, using corresponding sides of the two similar quadrilaterals.
- 1CD corresponds to GH
- 2y = 24 ÷ 2.5
- 3y = 9.6
Answer9.6
