The question, in short

On a grid from −1 to 4 in x and y, draw lines for y > 1, y < 2x + 2 and x + y ≤ 3, shade unwanted regions, then find and label region R.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 5 marks

  1. 1Draw y = 1 as a dashed horizontal line (strict inequality)
  2. 2Draw y = 2x + 2 dashed through (−1, 0) and (0, 2)
  3. 3Draw x + y = 3 solid through (0, 3) and (3, 0)
  4. 4Shade below y = 1, above y = 2x + 2 and above x + y = 3; label the unshaded triangle R

Answer3 correct ruled lines, y = 1 (dashed), y = 2x + 2 (dashed), x + y = 3 (solid), and R clearly indicated
