اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Parallel lines AB and CD with lines crossing at X give two similar triangles; with AB 3.0, AX 2.0, BX 2.7 and CD 7.5 cm, find the length BC.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Triangles ABX and DCX are similar (AB parallel to CD)
  2. 2XC/BX = CD/AB, so XC = 2.7 × 7.5 ÷ 3 = 6.75 cm
  3. 3BC = 2.7 + 6.75 = 9.45 cm
