The question, in short
On a 12-sided shape, draw every line of symmetry, then shade one square on a 5 by 5 grid so the pattern has rotational symmetry of order 2.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Draw all lines of symmetry on the given 12-sided shape.
- 1The shape is the same on the left and right: draw the vertical line through the centre
- 2It is the same top and bottom: draw the horizontal line through the centre
- 3There are no diagonal lines of symmetry
Answer2 correct lines of symmetry drawn (one vertical and one horizontal through the centre)
Part (b) · 1 mark
Shade one square in the 5 by 5 grid so the diagram has rotational symmetry of order 2.
- 1Rotate each shaded square 180° about the centre square
- 2The shaded square in row 4, column 3 has no partner
- 3Shade its partner: row 2, column 3
Answer1 square correctly shaded: row 2 from the top, column 3 from the left (the middle square of the second row)
