Part (a) · 3 marks
Draw a net for the open-topped cuboid on the 1 cm² grid.
- 1Draw the base as a 5 cm by 2 cm rectangle.
- 2Attach a 5 cm by 4 cm rectangle to each 5 cm edge of the base.
- 3Attach a 2 cm by 4 cm rectangle to each 2 cm edge of the base.
- 4No top face, so the net has 5 faces.
AnswerCorrect net
Part (b) · 2 marks
Calculate the total outside surface area of the box that gets painted.
- 1Area = 2 × (5 × 4) + 2 × (2 × 4) + 5 × 2
- 2= 40 + 16 + 10
- 3= 66 cm²
