The question, in short
From 15 test scores, fill a grouped frequency table and bar chart, then complete a two-day tree diagram with late probability 0.2 and use it to find two combined probabilities.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (ai) · 2 marks
Count how many of the 15 scores fall in each of the five score ranges and record the frequencies.
- 10 to 10: 7, 9, 8 → 3
- 211 to 20: 12, 18 → 2
- 321 to 30: 29, 27, 26, 23, 22 → 5
- 431 to 40: 32, 31, 40, 35 → 4; 41 to 50: 42 → 1
Answer| Score | Frequency | | 0 to 10 | 3 | | 11 to 20 | 2 | | 21 to 30 | 5 | | 31 to 40 | 4 | | 41 to 50 | 1 |
Part (aii) · 2 marks
Draw bars on the given axes with heights matching the frequencies from your table.
- 1Draw bars of equal width for each group with heights 3, 2, 5, 4, 1
AnswerCorrect bar chart
Part (bi) · 1 mark
Fill in the missing probabilities on the branches of the tree diagram.
- 1P(not late) = 1 − 0.2 = 0.8
- 2Write 0.8 on all three Not late branches
Answer0.8 in the three correct places (Not late on Monday, and Not late on Tuesday after each branch)
Part (biia) · 2 marks
Work out the probability that the train is late on both Monday and Tuesday.
- 1P(late, late) = 0.2 × 0.2 = 0.04
Answer0.04
Part (biib) · 2 marks
Work out the probability that Monday is not late but Tuesday is late.
- 1P(not late, late) = 0.8 × 0.2 = 0.16
Answer0.16
