The question, in short

Use the distance-time graph of Kai's trip from home to office, with a stop, to find average speed and draw his return journey at 50 km/h.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Calculate Kai's average speed in km/h for the whole journey from home to the office using the graph.

  1. 1Total distance = 65 km
  2. 2Total time = 10 00 to 12 00 = 2 hours
  3. 3Average speed = 65 ÷ 2 = 32.5 km/h

Answer32.5

Part (b) · 1 mark

Add to the graph Kai's immediate return home at a steady 50 km/h, showing the journey home.

  1. 1Time home = 65 ÷ 50 = 1.3 h = 1 h 18 min
  2. 212 00 + 1 h 18 min = 13 18
  3. 3Draw a ruled line from (12 00, 65) to (13 18, 0)

Answercorrect ruled line from (12 00, 65) to (13 18, 0)
