The question, in short

Given P(Stephan red) = 0.4 and P(both red) = 0.25 for independent picks from bags A and B, find the probability both pick blue.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 10.4 × P(Jen red) = 0.25
  2. 2P(Jen red) = 0.25 ÷ 0.4 = 0.625
  3. 3P(Jen blue) = 1 − 0.625 = 0.375 and P(Stephan blue) = 1 − 0.4 = 0.6
  4. 4P(both blue) = 0.6 × 0.375 = 0.225
