The question, in short
Using a scaled map where 1 cm stands for 0.5 km, work out the real separation of villages P and Q and the compass direction from P to Q.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Convert the measured length between P and Q on the drawing into the real distance in km.
- 1Measure PQ on the drawing with a ruler (it should be between 8.8 cm and 9.2 cm, about 9 cm)
- 2Actual distance = 9 × 0.5 = 4.5 km
Answer4.4 to 4.6
Part (b) · 1 mark
Use a protractor on the diagram to state the bearing of Q as seen from P.
- 1At P, measure the angle clockwise from the North line to the line PQ with a protractor
- 2Bearing ≈ 110°
Answer108 to 112
