The question, in short
Using a scale drawing where 1 cm represents 40 km and B lies directly south of A, measure a bearing, convert a measured length to real distance, and construct a point from two distances.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Measure the bearing of C from B on the drawing.
- 1Place the protractor at B with 0° pointing north
- 2Measure clockwise from north to the line BC
- 3Bearing = 125°
Answer125 (allow 123 to 127)
Part (b) · 2 marks
Measure the drawing distance AB in cm and convert it to the real distance in km using the scale.
- 1Measure AB on the drawing: 5.5 cm
- 2Distance = 5.5 × 40
- 3= 220 km
Answer220 (allow 216 to 224)
Part (c) · 2 marks
Using ruler and compasses only, construct D on the drawing, 300 km from A and 240 km from B.
- 1300 ÷ 40 = 7.5 cm, so draw an arc of radius 7.5 cm centred at A
- 2240 ÷ 40 = 6 cm, so draw an arc of radius 6 cm centred at B
- 3D is where the two arcs cross
AnswerTown D correctly placed: 7.5 cm from A and 6 cm from B
