The question, in short

Complete the table for sequences A, B and C by filling in the missing 6th terms and nth term expressions.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 8 marks

  1. 1A: difference −6, so 6th term = 4 − 6 = −2
  2. 2A: nth term = −6n + 34 = 34 − 6n (1st term 34 − 6 = 28)
  3. 3B: numerators 1, 2, 3, … = n; denominators 6, 7, 8, … = n + 5 (1/2 = 5/10)
  4. 4B: 6th term = 6/11, nth term = n/(n + 5)
  5. 5C: each term × 2, so 6th term = 4 × 2 = 8
  6. 6C: 1st term 1/4 = 2⁻², so nth term = 2ⁿ⁻³

Answer| Sequence | 6th term | nth term | | A | −2 | 34 − 6n | | B | 6/11 | n/(n + 5) | | C | 8 | 2ⁿ⁻³ |
