The question, in short

Two bags A and B hold red and yellow sweets. Given P(red from A) = 3/5 and P(red from A and red from B) = 2/15, find probabilities involving bag B picks.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Find the probability that the sweet picked from bag B is red.

  1. 13/5 × p = 2/15
  2. 2p = 2/15 ÷ 3/5 = 2/15 × 5/3 = 10/45
  3. 3= 2/9

Answer2/9

Part (b) · 3 marks

Find the probability that both sweets picked are yellow, one from each bag.

  1. 1P(yellow from A) = 1 − 3/5 = 2/5
  2. 2P(yellow from B) = 1 − 2/9 = 7/9
  3. 3P(yellow, yellow) = 2/5 × 7/9 = 14/45

Answer14/45
