The question, in short
Solve the simultaneous equations y = x² − 9x + 21 and y = 2x − 3, showing all working.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 5 marks
- 1x² − 9x + 21 = 2x − 3
- 2x² − 11x + 24 = 0
- 3(x − 3)(x − 8) = 0
- 4x = 3 or x = 8
- 5y = 2 × 3 − 3 = 3 and y = 2 × 8 − 3 = 13
- 6x = 3, y = 3 and x = 8, y = 13
Answerx = 3, y = 3 and x = 8, y = 13
