The question, in short

Using P = 2w + 2h with w = 11 and h = 9.5, each given to 2 significant figures, find the lower and upper bounds for P.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1w: 10.5 ≤ w < 11.5; h: 9.45 ≤ h < 9.55
  2. 2Lower bound P = 2 × 10.5 + 2 × 9.45 = 21 + 18.9 = 39.9
  3. 3Upper bound P = 2 × 11.5 + 2 × 9.55 = 23 + 19.1 = 42.1
  4. 4Lower bound = 39.9, Upper bound = 42.1

AnswerLower bound = 39.9, Upper bound = 42.1
