0580/22 Oct/Nov 2024, Question 14: Area Under a Speed-Time Graph

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 22 (Extended) · Calculator · 4 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Use a speed–time graph for a 17-second car journey, rising from 0 to 20 m/s in 10 s then constant, to find acceleration and total distance.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Find the car's acceleration over the first 10 seconds from the graph.

  1. 1Acceleration = gradient = 20 ÷ 10 = 2 m/s²

Answer2

Part (b) · 3 marks

Calculate the total distance the car travels during the whole 17 seconds.

  1. 1Distance = area under the graph
  2. 21/2 × 10 × 20 + 7 × 20 = 100 + 140
  3. 3= 240 m
