Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 41 (Extended) · Calculator · 4 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Using a speed–time graph with acceleration to 8 m/s then constant speed, find the distance covered in 10 s and the total time for a 100 m race.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Calculate the distance run during the first 10 seconds from the graph.

  1. 1Distance = area under graph
  2. 2= 1/2 × 2 × 8 + 8 × 8 = 8 + 64 = 72 m

Answer72

Part (b) · 2 marks

Given the race is 100 m and speed stays 8 m/s after 10 s, find the total race time.

  1. 1Distance in first 10 s = area under graph = ½ × 2 × 8 + 8 × 8 = 72 m
  2. 2Remaining distance = 100 − 72 = 28 m
  3. 3Time for the rest = 28 ÷ 8 = 3.5 s
  4. 4Total time = 10 + 3.5 = 13.5 s

Answer13.5 or 13 1/2
