Part (a) · 3 marks

On the grid with time from 2 pm to 5 pm and distance 0 to 8 km, draw the travel graph showing the whole journey, including the café at 6 km.

  1. 1Time to café = 6 ÷ 8 = 0.75 h = 45 min: line from (2 pm, 0) to (2 45, 6)
  2. 2Rest 1 hour: horizontal line from (2 45, 6) to (3 45, 6)
  3. 3Walk home: line from (3 45, 6) to (4 36, 0)

AnswerThree correct ruled lines

Part (b) · 3 marks

Calculate Samir's average speed for the entire journey from leaving home to returning.

  1. 1Total distance = 6 + 6 = 12 km
  2. 2Total time = 2 pm to 4.36 pm = 156 min
  3. 3Average speed = 12 ÷ 156 × 60
  4. 4= 4.615… ≈ 4.62 km/h

Answer4.62 or 4.615…
