Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Multiply mp over 25y by 15 over m and simplify the result to a single fraction.
- 1mp/(25y) × 15/m = 15mp/(25my)
- 2= 3p/(5y)
Answer(3p)/(5y)
Part (b) · 3 marks
Add 3 over (2x − 5) and 4 over (x − 3), writing the sum as one simplified fraction.
- 1Common denominator (2x − 5)(x − 3)
- 2= (3(x − 3) + 4(2x − 5))/((2x − 5)(x − 3))
- 3= (3x − 9 + 8x − 20)/((2x − 5)(x − 3)) = (11x − 29)/((2x − 5)(x − 3))
Answer(11x − 29)/((2x − 5)(x − 3)) or (11x − 29)/(2x² − 11x + 15)
