0580/41 Oct/Nov 2025, Question 26: Simultaneous equations (one quadratic)

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 41 (Extended) · Calculator · 4 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Solve y = 2x² − 3x − 7 and y = 2x − 7 simultaneously.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 12x² − 3x − 7 = 2x − 7
  2. 22x² − 5x = 0
  3. 3x(2x − 5) = 0, so x = 0 or x = 2.5
  4. 4x = 0: y = 2 × 0 − 7 = −7; x = 2.5: y = 2 × 2.5 − 7 = −2
  5. 5x = 0, y = −7 and x = 2.5, y = −2

Answerx = 0, y = −7 and x = 2.5, y = −2
