Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 42 (Extended) · Calculator · 4 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Using a stem-and-leaf diagram of 8 waiting times plus a mean of 16 minutes and range of 26 minutes for all 10 patients, find the waiting times of patients P and Q, where P waits longer.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1Total of all 10 times = 10 × 16 = 160
  2. 2Sum of the 8 shown = 1 + 4 + 10 + 12 + 19 + 21 + 25 + 25 = 117
  3. 3Shortest time is 1, so longest = 1 + 26 = 27 (longer than 25), so P = 27
  4. 4Q = 160 − 117 − 27 = 16
  5. 5Patient P = 27 minutes, Patient Q = 16 minutes

AnswerPatient P = 27, Patient Q = 16
