The question, in short

Using A(−3, 6) and B(7, −8) as endpoints of a diameter, determine the circle's equation.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1Centre = midpoint of AB = ((−3 + 7)/2, (6 − 8)/2) = (2, −1)
  2. 2r² = (−3 − 2)² + (6 − (−1))² = 25 + 49 = 74
  3. 3(x − 2)² + (y + 1)² = 74

Answer(x − 2)² + (y + 1)² = 74 or x² + y² − 4x + 2y − 69 = 0
