The question, in short
Find the exact tangent line to a log-of-power curve at x = 3, using chain rule differentiation and point evaluation.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1y = 5 ln(2x − 4)
- 2dy/dx = 5 × 2/(2x − 4) = 5/(x − 2)
- 3At x = 3: dy/dx = 5 and y = 5 ln 2 = ln 32
- 4Tangent: y − ln 32 = 5(x − 3)
Answery − ln 32 = 5(x − 3)
