The question, in short
A survey of 100 adults records daily email counts in a frequency table; find the mode, mean, a probability, and estimate a town-wide count.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Identify the number of emails with the highest frequency from the table.
- 1Highest frequency is 28 for 4 emails
- 2Mode = 4
Answer4
Part (b) · 2 marks
Calculate the mean number of emails using the frequencies and totals.
- 11 × 8 + 2 × 10 + 3 × 22 + 4 × 28 + 5 × 15 + 6 × 9 + 7 × 5 + 8 × 3 = 394
- 2Mean = 394 ÷ 100 = 3.94
Answer3.94 or 3 94/100 or 3 47/50
Part (c) · 2 marks
For a randomly chosen adult, find the simplified fraction probability of receiving fewer than 4 emails.
- 1Fewer than 4: 8 + 10 + 22 = 40
- 2P = 40/100 = 2/5
Answer2/5
Part (d) · 2 marks
Using 18 000 adults, estimate how many received exactly 5 emails.
- 115/100 × 18 000
- 2= 2700
Answer2700
