Part (a) · 2 marks
Simplify 4a − b + 6b − 7a by collecting like terms.
- 14a − 7a = −3a and −b + 6b = 5b
- 2= 5b − 3a
Answer5b − 3a
Part (b) · 2 marks
Solve m/2 − 4 = 5 to find the value of m.
- 1m/2 = 5 + 4 = 9
- 2m = 18
Answer18
Part (c) · 2 marks
Rearrange u = (t + 4)/3 so that t is the subject.
- 13u = t + 4
- 2t = 3u − 4
Answer3u − 4 or 3(u − 4/3)
Part (d) · 2 marks
Expand 3y(2y² + 5) by multiplying out the bracket.
- 13y × 2y² + 3y × 5
- 2= 6y³ + 15y
Answer6y³ + 15y
