Part (a) · 2 marks

Using the 3 : 5 : 4 ratio and a shortest piece of 180 cm, work out how long the longest piece is in cm.

  1. 1One part = 180 ÷ 3 = 60 cm
  2. 2Longest = 5 × 60
  3. 3= 300 cm

Answer300

Part (b) · 2 marks

Work out the combined length of all three pieces and give it in metres.

  1. 1The shortest piece is 3 parts, so 1 part = 180 ÷ 3 = 60 cm.
  2. 2Total parts = 3 + 5 + 4 = 12, so total = 12 × 60 = 720 cm.
  3. 3720 cm ÷ 100 = 7.2 m
