The question, in short

Using a diagram with North at O, OC and OA each at 70° to North, and x° and y° between OA, OB, OC, find x from x:y = 3:7, then bearings of C from O and O from A.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Given x:y = 3:7 and the angles around O, find the value of x.

  1. 1x + y = 360 − 2 × 70 = 220
  2. 2x = 220 ÷ (3 + 7) × 3
  3. 3= 22 × 3 = 66

Answer66

Part (b) · 1 mark

Find the bearing of C from O.

  1. 1C is 70° west of North
  2. 2Bearing = 360 − 70 = 290°

Answer290

Part (c) · 1 mark

Find the bearing of O from A.

  1. 1Bearing of A from O = 070°
  2. 2Bearing of O from A = 070 + 180 = 250°
