Part (a) · 2 marks
Simplify 2e − 3f + 4e − 7f by collecting like terms.
- 1Collect the e terms: 2e + 4e = 6e
- 2Collect the f terms: −3f − 7f = −10f
- 3= 6e − 10f
Answer6e − 10f
Part (b) · 2 marks
Expand and simplify 5(4x + 3) − (3x − 1).
- 15(4x + 3) = 20x + 15
- 2−(3x − 1) = −3x + 1
- 320x + 15 − 3x + 1 = 17x + 16
Answer17x + 16
Part (c) · 2 marks
Factorise 4p + 6pq fully.
- 1The highest common factor of 4p and 6pq is 2p
- 24p ÷ 2p = 2 and 6pq ÷ 2p = 3q
- 3= 2p(2 + 3q)
Answer2p(2 + 3q)
