Part (a) · 1 mark
Factorise the expression 3x² − x.
- 1factor out x from 3x² − x
- 2x(3x − 1)
Answerx(3x − 1)
Part (b) · 1 mark
Expand the brackets in 4(2y + 3).
- 14 × 2y = 8y
- 24 × 3 = 12
- 38y + 12
Answer8y + 12
Part (c) · 2 marks
Find C from C = 5a + 4d using a = −3 and d = 6.
- 15 × (−3) = −15
- 24 × 6 = 24
- 3−15 + 24 = 9
- 4C = 9
Answer9
Part (d) · 2 marks
Find P from P = 3t² + 7t using t = −4.
- 1Square first: (−4)² = 16
- 23 × 16 = 48
- 37 × (−4) = −28
- 4P = 48 − 28 = 20
