A 4 cm high rectangle has area 28 cm². Three copies form an L-like shape with two flat and one upright at the join. Find the perimeter of this shape.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1Length of each rectangle = 28 ÷ 4 = 7 cm
- 2Bottom edge = 7 + 7 = 14; two ends = 4 + 4 = 8
- 3Top of the base not covered = 14 − 4 = 10
- 4Upright rectangle: 7 + 7 + 4 = 18
- 5Perimeter = 14 + 8 + 10 + 18 = 50
