The question, in short

Find a line parallel to y = 7 − 4x, then find a line perpendicular to the line through (−3, 1) and (2, −2) passing through (−6, 4), in the form ax + by + c = 0.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Write down an equation of a line parallel to y = 7 − 4x.

  1. 1y = −4x + k

Answery = −4x + k

Part (b) · 4 marks

Find an equation of the line perpendicular to L through (−6, 4), giving it as ax + by + c = 0 with integer a, b, c.

  1. 1m = (−2 − 1) / (2 − (−3)) = −3/5
  2. 2m_perp = 5/3
  3. 3y − 4 = (5/3)(x + 6)
  4. 4y = (5/3)x + 10 + 4
  5. 5y = (5/3)x + 14
  6. 6(5/3)x − y + 14 = 0
  7. 75x − 3y + 42 = 0

Answer5x − 3y + 42 = 0
