The question, in short
Line L goes through (4, −1) and (6, 4); line M is perpendicular to L and crosses the y-axis at (0, 8). Find where M meets the x-axis.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1Gradient of L = (4 − (−1)) ÷ (6 − 4) = 5/2 = 2.5
- 2Perpendicular gradient = −1 ÷ 2.5 = −0.4
- 3M crosses the y-axis at 8: y = −0.4x + 8
- 4On the x-axis y = 0: 0.4x = 8, so x = 20
- 5(20, 0)
