The question, in short
Circle centre O(4, 7) with point A(6, 11) on it and AOP a diameter; find the equation of the tangent at P.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1(x =) 4 − (6 − 4) = 2
- 2(y =) 7 − (11 − 7) = 3
- 3P is (2, 3)
- 4(11 − 7) / (6 − 4) = 4 / 2 = 2
- 5gradient of tangent = −1 / 2 = −0.5
- 6y − 3 = −0.5(x − 2)
- 7y = −0.5x + 1 + 3
- 8y = −0.5x + 4
Answery = −1/2 x + 4
