The question, in short
Use the grid to perform a rotation of triangle A and identify the single transformation linking triangles B and C.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Turn triangle A 90° anticlockwise around the origin O and draw the resulting triangle on the grid.
- 1Original coordinates of triangle A: (2, −1), (2, −3), (5, −3)
- 2Rotation 90° anticlockwise about origin: (x, y) → (−y, x)
- 3Apply to (2, −1): (−(−1), 2) = (1, 2)
- 4Apply to (2, −3): (−(−3), 2) = (3, 2)
- 5Apply to (5, −3): (−(−3), 5) = (3, 5)
- 6Plot points (1, 2), (3, 2), (3, 5) to form rotated triangle
Answer(1, 2) (3, 2) (3, 5)
Part (b) · 2 marks
State fully the one transformation that takes triangle B onto triangle C, giving its type and details.
- 1Corresponding vertices: B (1, 2) → C (3, 6) and B (3, 2) → C (9, 6)
- 2Each coordinate is multiplied by 3, so the scale factor is 3
- 3Lines through matching vertices meet at the origin, so the centre is (0, 0)
- 4Enlargement, scale factor 3, centre (0, 0)
AnswerEnlargement, scale factor 3 and (0,0)
