The question, in short
Use a square grid to carry out two transformations of shape P and identify one transformation linking triangles T and U.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Rotate shape P by 180° around (−3, 2) on the grid and mark the result as Q.
- 1A 180° rotation about (−3, 2) sends (x, y) to (−6 − x, 4 − y)
- 2(3, −2) goes to (−9, 6)
- 3(3, −5) goes to (−9, 9)
- 4(−3, −5) goes to (−3, 9)
- 5(0, −2) goes to (−6, 6)
AnswerQ at (−9, 6), (−9, 9), (−3, 9), (−6, 6)
Part (b) · 1 mark
Move shape P by the vector (10, 8) on the grid and mark the result as R.
- 1The vector says move 10 right and 8 up
- 2(3, −2) goes to (13, 6)
- 3(3, −5) goes to (13, 3)
- 4(−3, −5) goes to (7, 3)
- 5(0, −2) goes to (10, 6)
AnswerR at (13, 6), (13, 3), (7, 3), (10, 6)
Part (c) · 3 marks
State the single transformation taking triangle T onto triangle U, giving all its details.
- 1Triangle U is twice as wide and twice as tall as triangle T, so it is an enlargement of scale factor 2
- 2Joining each vertex of T to the matching vertex of U, the lines all meet at (−3, 3)
- 3So it is an enlargement, scale factor 2, centre (−3, 3)
AnswerEnlargement, scale factor 2, centre (−3, 3)
