Part (a) · 4 marks

Find how much more Theresa paid than Shane, expressed as a percentage of the $32,000 Shane paid.

  1. 118 000 + 14 × 1160 = 34 240
  2. 234 240 − 32 000 = 2240
  3. 3(2240 / 32 000) × 100 = 7

Answer7

Part (b) · 3 marks

Given the van is worth $39,865 after decreasing 15% in a year, work out its value when bought.

  1. 1After a 15% decrease, the van is worth 85% of its first value.
  2. 2So first value × 0.85 = 39 865
  3. 3First value = 39 865 ÷ 0.85 = 46 900
