The question, in short
From a grouped frequency table of weights in kg for 40 parcels, identify the modal class and calculate an estimated mean weight.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
State which weight interval has the highest frequency.
- 1The class with the highest frequency is 0 < p ≤ 1, which has a frequency of 19.
Answer0 < p ≤ 1
Part (b) · 4 marks
Use the table's class midpoints and frequencies to estimate the mean parcel weight in kg.
- 1Use class midpoints: 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5
- 2Midpoint × frequency: 9.5, 18, 12.5, 7, 9
- 3Total = 9.5 + 18 + 12.5 + 7 + 9 = 56
- 4Mean = 56 ÷ 40 = 1.4
