The question, in short

Find the total area of a shape combining a right-angled triangle with legs BA = BC = 6 cm and a semicircle on diameter AC, giving the answer to 1 decimal place.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 5 marks

  1. 1Triangle area = ½ × 6 × 6 = 18 cm²
  2. 2AC = √(6² + 6²) = √72, so the radius is √72 ÷ 2 = 4.242…
  3. 3Semicircle area = ½ × π × 4.242…² = 28.27… cm²
  4. 4Total = 18 + 28.27… = 46.27…, which is 46.3
