The question, in short
A hemisphere sits on a cylinder with equal radius; radius to cylinder height is 1:3 and total volume is 792π cm³. Find the height of the solid.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 5 marks
- 1Let the radius be r, so the cylinder height is 3r
- 2Volume = (2/3)πr³ + πr² × 3r = (11/3)πr³
- 3(11/3)r³ = 792, so r³ = 216 and r = 6
- 4Height = 3r + r = 18 + 6 = 24
