Part (a) · 5 marks
Calculate Josh's percentage profit from buying 120 books at £4 each and selling half at £5, 40% at £7 and the rest at £8.
- 1Cost = 120 × 4 = 480
- 21/2 of 120 = 60 books: 60 × 5 = 300
- 340% of 120 = 48 books: 48 × 7 = 336
- 4Rest = 120 − 60 − 48 = 12 books: 12 × 8 = 96
- 5Income = 300 + 336 + 96 = 732, profit = 732 − 480 = 252
- 6Percentage profit = 252 ÷ 480 × 100 = 52.5%
Answer52.5
