Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 · Paper 1HR (Higher) · Calculator · 5 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

From a grouped frequency table of ages for 80 people, complete a cumulative frequency table, draw the cumulative frequency graph, and use it to estimate the median age.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Fill in the cumulative frequency column for each age band up to 70 years.

  1. 19
  2. 29 + 19 = 28
  3. 328 + 17 = 45
  4. 445 + 18 = 63
  5. 563 + 13 = 76
  6. 676 + 4 = 80

Answer9, 28, 45, 63, 76, 80

Part (b) · 2 marks

Plot the cumulative frequency graph on the grid with age 0 to 70 and cumulative frequency 0 to 80.

  1. 1Plot point at (20, 9)
  2. 2Plot point at (30, 28)
  3. 3Plot point at (40, 45)
  4. 4Plot point at (50, 63)
  5. 5Plot point at (60, 76)
  6. 6Plot point at (70, 80)
  7. 7Join points with smooth curve or straight line segments

AnswerCorrect cumulative frequency graph with points at upper ends of intervals and joined with smooth curve or line segments

Part (c) · 2 marks

Read the median age from the cumulative frequency graph.

  1. 1Find half of total frequency: 80 / 2 = 40
  2. 2Draw horizontal line from cumulative frequency 40 to meet the curve
  3. 3Draw vertical line down from the curve to the age axis
  4. 4Read off the median age as approximately 36

Answer35 to 38
