The question, in short
Teams A and B have mean scores of 17 after 11 rounds and 18 after 9 rounds. After one more round both means are 18.5; find how many more points A scored than B in that round.

- 1Team A: 17 × 11 = 187 after 11 rounds; 18.5 × 12 = 222 after 12
- 2Team A scored 222 − 187 = 35 in the further round
- 3Team B: 18 × 9 = 162; 18.5 × 10 = 185, so B scored 185 − 162 = 23
- 435 − 23 = 12
