The question, in short
Compare the water volume in a full cylinder (radius 10 cm, height 33 cm) with the spare capacity of a 35 cm by 28 cm by 20 cm cuboid already holding water 9 cm deep, showing the cuboid will not overflow.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 3 marks
- 1Water in cuboid = 35 × 28 × 9 = 8820 cm³
- 2Cylinder = π × 10² × 33 = 10367.25... cm³
- 3Total water = 8820 + 10367.25... = 19187.25... cm³
- 4Cuboid holds 35 × 28 × 20 = 19600 cm³
- 519187.25... < 19600, so not completely full
Answer8820 + 10367.25... = 19187.25... cm³ < 19600 cm³, so the cuboid is not full
