The question, in short

Three similar vases R, S, T: S has 72.8% more volume than R; heights h and 6h; surface areas A and kA. Find k.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1Volume S = 1.728 × volume R
  2. 2Length scale factor R to S = ∛1.728 = 1.2, so height of S = 1.2h
  3. 3Length scale factor S to T = 6h ÷ 1.2h = 5
  4. 4Area scale factor S to T = 5² = 25
  5. 5k = 25
