The question, in short
Use a biased 5-colour spinner with given probabilities, including 4x and x, to find a combined probability and estimate how often red occurs in 350 spins.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Find the probability the spinner lands on blue, green or purple using the table values.
- 10.12 + 0.20 + 0.38
- 2= 0.7
Answer0.7
Part (b) · 4 marks
First find x from the probabilities summing to 1, then estimate the number of red results in 350 spins.
- 11 − 0.7 = 0.3
- 24x + x = 0.3 so x = 0.06
- 3P(red) = 4x = 0.24
- 40.24 × 350 = 84
