The question, in short

A biased 5-sided spinner has colour probabilities given in a table, with red 4x and yellow x. Find a combined probability and estimate red outcomes in 350 spins.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Work out the probability the spinner lands on blue, green or purple.

  1. 10.12 + 0.20 + 0.38
  2. 2= 0.7

Answer0.7

Part (b) · 4 marks

Using 350 spins, estimate how many times the spinner lands on red.

  1. 11 − 0.7 = 0.3
  2. 24x + x = 0.3, so 5x = 0.3
  3. 3x = 0.06, so P(red) = 4x = 0.24
  4. 40.24 × 350
  5. 5= 84
