The question, in short
Using the given grid, carry out an enlargement of shape A and identify the single transformation linking triangles P and Q.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Draw shape A enlarged by scale factor 3 about the point (0, 1) on the grid.
- 1Each vertex: distance from (0, 1) multiplied by 3
- 2(1, 1) → (3, 1), (3, 1) → (9, 1)
- 3(3, 4) → (9, 10), (2, 4) → (6, 10)
- 4(2, 2) → (6, 4), (1, 2) → (3, 4)
AnswerShape with vertices (3, 1), (9, 1), (9, 10), (6, 10), (6, 4), (3, 4)
Part (b) · 3 marks
State fully the one transformation that takes triangle P to triangle Q.
- 1Right angle (2, 2) maps to (8, 8)
- 2(4, 2) maps to (6, 8), (2, 6) maps to (8, 4)
- 3Each point is reflected through the midpoint: ((2 + 8)/2, (2 + 8)/2) = (5, 5)
- 4Rotation 180° about centre (5, 5)
AnswerRotation 180° about (5, 5)
