The question, in short

Using the grid with shapes A and B, identify the single transformation taking A to B, then draw the reflection of A across y = −1.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

State the one transformation that carries shape A onto shape B, giving its type and full details.

  1. 1Each vertex (x, y) of A goes to (−x, −y) on B, e.g. (2, 3) → (−2, −3).
  2. 2Swapping both signs is a half turn about the origin.
  3. 3Rotation 180° about (0, 0)

Answerrotation 180⁰ about (0, 0)

Part (b) · 2 marks

Draw shape A's mirror image in the line y = −1 on the grid.

  1. 1Draw the line y = −1 on the grid
  2. 2For each vertex of shape A, find its distance above or below y = −1
  3. 3Reflect each point across y = −1 by making the same distance on the opposite side
  4. 4The point (2, 1) becomes (2, −3)
  5. 5The point (2, 3) becomes (2, −5)
  6. 6The point (5, 1) becomes (5, −3)
  7. 7The point (5, 2) becomes (5, −4)
  8. 8(2, −3) (2, −5) (5, −3) (5, −4)

Answer(2, −3) (2, −5) (5, −3) (5, −4)
