The question, in short

Find the cone slant height l for a solid combining a cone and hemisphere of radius 6.2 cm, given total surface area 600 cm² and the sphere and cone area formulas.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1Hemisphere curved area = 1/2 × 4 × π × 6.2² = 241.52…
  2. 2Cone curved area = π × 6.2 × l
  3. 3241.52… + π × 6.2 × l = 600
  4. 4l = (600 − 241.52…) ÷ (π × 6.2) = 358.47… ÷ 19.47…
  5. 5l = 18.40… ≈ 18.4 cm

Answer18.4 or 18.40…
